The Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme was instigated by the late Libby Baxter to mark the arrival of the Millennium within our parish.
The Village Award was presented to Bruce Waitson for his outstanding contribution to village life. He is the current chair and long time supporter of the social club committee; he sits on the Village Hall committee and is a member of the website steering group and is always ready to help organise and participate in village events and activities as well as carry out many small jobs and tasks that generally go unnoticed but are vital to the smooth running of the village. Bruce plays a pivotal role both on and off stage in the pantomime; he is responsible for the fabulous scenery and helps to devise many of the props and infrastructure of the stage. Bruce is a natural leader but is equally happy to be part of a team; he is helpful and kind and is a positive force in everything he takes part in. Thank you Bruce and well deserved.
Every year in December a small committee of past winners, currently chaired by Helen Langrish, consider nominated candidates and elect a winner for the past year.
There is a small monetary award and the winners name is added to the Honours Board in the Village Hall Community Room.
Anyone can make a nomination by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Newchurch 2000 Award Scheme is one of several projects instigated by Libby Baxter, herself a great contributor to our community.
